You're standing in front of a backpack display and don't know which one to choose? We get it! Between dozens of models, different sizes, and prices that vary wildly, it's easy to get lost.
At Carry-Work, we help our customers every day find THE backpack that suits them. Here are our best tips, no fluff.
First, ask yourself the right question: what's it for?
It sounds obvious, but it's the foundation. A bag for going to the office has nothing in common with a bag for weekend hiking. If it's for work, you'll need a padded compartment for your laptop. If it's for travel, go for something sturdy with plenty of storage.
Our tip: if you're hesitating between two uses, go for the most versatile. A good travel bag can easily work for daily use!
Size matters (really)
Too small, you can't fit anything. Too big, you look like a hiker in the middle of the city. For daily use, aim for 15 to 25 liters. For a weekend, 30-40 liters is perfect. Beyond that, it's really for long trips.
Something we often notice: people buy too big "just in case". Result? A half-empty bag that hurts your back. Stay reasonable!
Comfort is non-negotiable
Let's be honest: an uncomfortable bag, you'll quickly leave it in the closet. Check that the straps are well-padded, the back is ventilated (especially if you sweat easily), and the weight is well-distributed.
If you often carry heavy loads, a waist strap makes all the difference. It really relieves the shoulders.
Material question: leather, nylon, or canvas?
Leather is classy and lasts for years if you take care of it. However, it's heavier and doesn't like rain much. Nylon is lightweight, durable, and often waterproof. Canvas is a good compromise: nice-looking and fairly solid.
At Carry-Work, we have a soft spot for quality leather. Yes, it's an investment, but you keep it for at least 10 years.
The little extras that change everything
Well-designed pockets, a USB port to charge your phone on the go, a hidden anti-theft pocket... These details make the difference in daily use. You don't notice them at first glance, but after a few weeks of use, you can't live without them.
Our final advice
The best backpack is the one you'll actually use. Not the one with the most features or the nicest design on the website. Think about your real use, not what you imagine doing with it.
